I was on a mission this morning, eagerly preparing for a ministry event, when suddenly, a nail in my tire disrupted my plans. It was not something I caused or could have prevented. At that moment, my Monday went from passion to deflation.
There is so much happening in our world and circumstances that deflate our spirits, especially when things seem to go against our mission or passion. It can be disheartening when external factors hinder our progress. Prices are going through the roof; crime is on the rise, and accusations against biblical principles – when we seem to get out of one set of deflating circumstances, another curve ball hits us.
In 2 Corinthians 4:8-10, the apostle Paul writes, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.”
But here’s the beauty of these verses: they remind us that we are not defeated even in the face of challenges and setbacks. You may have felt deflated, but you were not crushed. The tire may have been flat, but it did not destroy my spirit.
In the same way, the trials we face in life may press us from every side, leaving us feeling trapped and discouraged. We may be perplexed, not knowing how to navigate the obstacles before us. We may even face persecution for our faith or encounter moments when we feel struck down. Paul reminds us that we are not abandoned or destroyed in those moments.
Just as I found a tire store to fix my flat, we can turn to God for help and guidance—and his assistance is freely given. He is with us in our deflated moments, ready to provide strength and support. He can mend our spirits, fill us with hope, and equip us to overcome the challenges that come our way.
Remember that setbacks and challenges are not the end of our mission. They are opportunities for growth, resilience, and reliance on God’s grace. Don’t pack up and go home! Allow my flat tire experience to serve as a reminder that sometimes things happen beyond our control, but it does not diminish the impact of your mission.
Stay steadfast, knowing God works through you, even during deflating circumstances. Your dedication and passion will continue to make a difference, and your mission will thrive despite the temporary setbacks.
May you find encouragement and strength in the promises of God as you press forward on your mission.
