Catching the Wind: Movement, Momentum, and the Messy Middle

We love mountaintop moments with God. When the Spirit rushes in like wind and fire, it’s easy to believe we’re being moved. But what about Tuesday afternoon? What about the long stretch of “normal”? That’s where most of us live—and it’s exactly where the Holy Spirit wants to meet us.

In Part 3 of Catch the Wind, we leaned hard into this truth: movement in the Spirit isn’t reserved for revival services or goosebump worship. It’s for everyday obedience—in your office, your kitchen, your traffic jam.

Jesus didn’t send the Holy Spirit to hype us. He sent Him to help us—to help us forgive, change, love deeper, speak softer, and live freer. And that only happens when we stop chasing wind and start raising our sails.

The Spirit in the Ordinary

We often look for the Spirit in signs and wonders—and while He moves powerfully in those ways, Scripture tells us His deepest work is in unity, maturity, and love. That happens in the ordinary obedience of forgiving someone who hurt you, speaking kindly when you’re irritated, or choosing peace over pride.

The Holy Spirit isn’t random. He has rhythm. And if we’ll posture ourselves—heart, mind, and body—to follow His lead, He will breathe life into even the most mundane moments.

Here’s what we’re learning:

  • The Holy Spirit has a pattern; He’s not unpredictable, just underfollowed.
  • The sail isn’t the Spirit—it’s our obedience to Him.
  • Movement + Momentum = Power. If we’re not moving, we’re not engaging His power.
  • Maturity values forgiveness and love above spiritual spectacle.
  • You can’t be anchored in fear, pride, or offense and expect to move forward.

It’s Time to Let Go

You can’t sail while tied to the dock. That dock might be a fear, a pattern, or a past hurt. It may even feel safe—but it’s not your purpose. The wind of the Spirit is always blowing, but it’s our posture, position, submission, and alignment that allow us to move.

God doesn’t just want to inspire you—He wants to carry you.

So what now?

  • Stop chasing hype. Start listening for the Spirit in your daily rhythm.
  • Ask yourself: Where am I resisting movement?
  • Choose one area to raise your sails this week: forgiveness, obedience, prayer, or risk.
  • Don’t wait for the perfect moment. The wind is already blowing.

Remember:
No sail = no movement.
Your sails aren’t your strength—they’re your surrender.

So go ahead: lift them up.
The wind is blowing. Are you ready to move?
